How many units are in 1 mL?
It depends on the syringe scale, not the contents. 1 mL = 100 units on a U-100 syringe, 50 units on a U-50 syringe and 40 units on a U-40 syringe. A 1 mL U-100 insulin syringe is marked 0 to 100.
The math
units in 1 mL = units-per-mL of the scale U-100: 1 mL × 100 = 100 units U-50: 1 mL × 50 = 50 units U-40: 1 mL × 40 = 40 units
| mL | U-100 units | U-50 units | U-40 units |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.1 | 10 | 5 | 4 |
| 0.25 | 25 | 12.5 | 10 |
| 0.3 | 30 | 15 | 12 |
| 0.5 | 50 | 25 | 20 |
| 1 | 100 | 50 | 40 |

= 0.1 mL · concentration 2.5 mg/mL (2500 mcg/mL) · 20 draws per vial
Concentration = 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL Volume = 250 mcg ÷ 2500 mcg/mL = 0.1 mL Units = 0.1 mL × 100 (U-100) = 10 units
